Call for applications for the LCA-YAN Executive Committee (2022 – 2024 Term)

1.             Introduction

1.1          The Lagos Court of Arbitration – Young Arbitrators Network  (“LCA – YAN” or the “Group”) is looking to recruit 7 (seven) knowledgeable, competent and motivated young arbitration practitioners, to run the affairs of the Group for a term of two years starting in January 2022.

1.2          The LCA-YAN is a network sponsored by the Lagos Court of Arbitration for arbitration practitioners and students of 40 years of age or under. The Group is set up to expose members to the practice of International Arbitration as well as provide members with a platform to network and build capacity in the field of International Arbitration.

1.3          Applicants should be 40 years of age or under as at 31 December 2024.

1.4          Interested applicants must send their application to latest by 31 October 2021. Applications received after this date will not be considered.

1.5          All applications should include:

(a)           an up-to-date CV of no more than two pages highlighting your arbitration background and experience (including qualifications/certifications, any active roles/ participation at conferences and events in the international arbitration community); and

(b)           a cover letter of no more than two pages highlighting your motivation for applying for the Executive Committee position and any ideas that you may have for the future development of the LCA-YAN in Africa.

2.             Competence and professionalism

Ideal candidates would have:

(a)           at least 3 years post qualification legal experience;

(b)           proven knowledge and/or experience of the law and practice of arbitration;

(c)           excellent written and oral communication skills;

(d)           problem-solving skills; and

(e)           excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work well with others.

3.             Visibility and track record

Ideal candidates would:

(a)           be members of the LCA-YAN. Membership applications can be found here;

(b)           be active members of the international arbitration community with evidence of active involvement in the LCA-YAN and/or other external arbitration activities;

(c)           demonstrate willingness to dedicate time and resources to the growth and advancement of the LCA-YAN in Africa; and

(d)           demonstrate foresight and map out plans to progress the activities of the LCA-YAN.


4.             Administrative capabilities

Ideal candidates would have:

(a)           prior experience organising and/or coordinating workshops, seminars, conferences or mentoring programmes; and

(b)           excellent management and organization skills including decision making and delegation skills.
